HizashiCon returns to Foo Foo Fest with anime, J-pop and more

The Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida is thrilled to announce the return of HizashiCon, Pensacola’s celebration of Japanese anime, pop culture and music. Following the success of its inaugural year in 2024, HizashiCon 2025 promises to be bigger and even more exciting as part of the official lineup of Foo Foo Fest.

The family-friendly convention takes place Friday, Oct. 31, through Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, bringing together anime fans, music lovers, cosplayers and pop culture enthusiasts for an unforgettable Halloween weekend. HizashiCon, named for the Japanese word for “sunshine,” reflects both the spirit of the event and its sunny Pensacola home.

“We’re so excited to bring HizashiCon back even bigger and better this year,” said Savannah Mikus, JAS board member and HizashiCon committee chair. “Last year, HizashiCon drew visitors from 11 states, with more than a quarter of attendees traveling more than 100 miles. This aligns with Foo Foo Fest’s goal of boosting shoulder-season tourism, and we can’t wait to do it again.”

The festivities begin Friday evening with a concert at the Rex Theatre, 18 N. Palafox St. Musical guests Trickle, Sana Takizawa, Thai McGrath and Vocaloid artist EmpathP take the stage for a high-energy performance to kick off the weekend. Doors open at 6 p.m.; music begins at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to celebrate Halloween by showing off their favorite cosplay.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the main convention runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright St. Guests can meet voice actors Branden Loera, Drew Breedlove, Felecia Angelle, Bryson Baugus and John Patneude, the English voices behind many beloved anime and video game characters. In addition to guest signings, attendees can compete in the official cosplay contest, enjoy J-fashion and idol shows, participate in expert panels, and shop dozens of vendor and artist booths.

The Heartstrings Maid Café returns this year, offering a cozy, whimsical glimpse into Akihabara maid culture. Admission requires an additional ticket and includes food and drinks served by the Heartstrings maids and butlers.

Saturday night continues with an afterparty at the Handlebar, 319 N. Tarragona St., featuring performances by Azazus, Mac Ro and Sam Sky. Afterparty admission is free with the HizashiCon wristband.

The weekend concludes Sunday, Nov. 2, with “Paws & Pixels” at Coastal Cat Café, 1508 W. Garden St., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. HizashiCon wristbands provide $5 off entry.

HizashiCon passes and Maid Café tickets are on sale now at animepensacola.com. General admission is $35 in advance or $40 on the day of the event. JAS members and students receive a $5 discount, and children 10 and under are admitted free.

HizashiCon is organized by the Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida, whose mission is to foster and promote stronger ties of friendship and understanding between the U.S. and Japan. For more information, visit animepensacola.com or search HizashiCon on Instagram and Facebook.
